Crowdsourcing kids publication
Brikki is a little lion, a cartoon character aimed at kids, experiencing all kinds of everyday adventures. Instead of chasing potential book publishers the founder decided to use his social media experience to build Brikki bottom up. You can check the result at www.brikki.com. The site is an interactive platform with short Brikki stories, coloring pages, a Brikki creator and an upload engine for stories. Thanks to the upload engine the creator is sure that the adventures match the topics that are top of mind among the audience. Of course Brikki has his own account on Twitter and the Dutch alternative of Facebook (Hyves).
Kids are nowadays growing up in a digital and crossmedia context. This concept is a modern interpretation of learning by doing. From the perspective of innovation this is a smart new combination: crowdsourcing + book = interactive eBook for kids. We have seen crowdsourcing before but not in this combination, and not for children. Brikki has started only 6 weeks ago. One of the next projects that has been scheduled is creating Brikki’s with kids in a classroom: Brikki live! Brikki is a Dutch initiative, the English version has been online for just a couple of hours.
