Send and Receive: 100% Unique Necklaces
Example spotted by Sara Soares from Lisbon
What it is:
The ethical fashion blog “Fashion loves people” devised a great way for people to make, give and receive 100% unique necklaces and also make new friends worldwide. All one has to do is to join in and fill up a form and commit to making a necklace that, in turn, will be sent to a randomly selected ”match person”, and also receive another necklace made by a different randomly selected “match person”. There’s no need to be a designer or have a great deal of dexterity – for the blog provides hints and tips on how to select and recycle beads, thrifted jewellery etc. All one needs is creativity and a bit of adventurous spirit to have a lot of fun, save a lot of money and also make a new friend over Christmas. Plus the later thrill to get to the picture of one’s necklace worn around the neck of the new randomly selected friend.
Why it is Cool:
Because it shows that even in straitened times like this, creativity goes a long way to motivate people to forget their woes and create something nice for its uniqueness that will
certainly be appreciated by whomever receives it – and also enjoying the same kind of feeling when they receive their necklace in return.
Because it proves that Sane Recession has evolved from just being able to cope with the economic downturn to actually creating ways and means to reappraise our priorities and make the most of what we have got.
And also because it shows a practical, relaxed yet highly creative and individual face of fashion, in that it turns a mere accessory into a token of essential feelings and sentiments.

Hi Duca/Eduardo. Your necklace contribution makes me aware of what I want to wish for the world in 2012. Yes, 2012 might not be a glorious economic year in many parts of the world. But wow!, with some creativity, some help by a Social Web that can mix and match our tastes ans some sane Recession Creativity, can we make each other happy with surprising neckalces, yes or no? YES. How much social and cultural optimism a necklace can radiate -:). Thanks – and looking forward to your next contribution.
Always a pleasure, Carl!
