Personal 3D Figurines
What it is:
The technique of 3D printing has been around for a couple of years, but just recently an accessible 3D printing photo booth has opened itself to the public. Omote 3D asks you stand still for 15 minutes. In the meantime a whole hand scan of your body is produced. The outcome is quite surprising: instead of making a picture, it produces a mini-figure of yourself. You can find it at the exhibition space Eye of Gyre in Harajuku. Reservations are only available through this website, where you can choose from 3 different sizes. The smallest figure costs around €210. This photo booth is getting hyped at the moment, but we may not forget that 3d-u -an agency in Madrid- started this 3D-figure-printing back in 2010.
Why it is Cool:
3D printing isn’t exactly new, but making a figure of yourself is still very expensive. The museum offers a chance to make a nice figure, and it’s available for everybody. It gives you a physical and most important, personal memory. Not only a creative studio is delivering this service, but there’s also a company providing this service. It’s probably due to the fact that we already know the regular, personalized products, that this new initiative is well received. Clothing and jewellery with your name on it, it isn’t special anymore. So this could be the next step in personalized products.
Visit the booth from the 24th of November 2012 till January 14th 2013
