Based on location, the app connects users and food establishment (bakery, restaurant or supermarket) and lets them know which is selling for food at a reduced price. This helps lessen food waste which is currently a global problem and also affects our environment.
The company was created in 2015 in Denmark by Thomas Bjørn Momsen, Klaus Bagge Pedersen, Brian Christensen, and Adam Sigbrand. After witnessing perfect food that have not been eaten thrown away at the end of a buffet.
The content of each pack is unknown since the establishment cannot know beforehand which product surplus they will have. But for those worrying about eating habits and having to get surprise packs, the developers also had them in mind when creating the app. When creating the profile, the user can choose eating habits among three options: “Nothing”, “Vegan” or “Vegetarian”. Although the details of each pack remains a secret, it is revealed during pickup and the user can choose to take it or leave it.
The preferences section of the profile doesn’t stop there, the user can choose the type of food: cooked – for restaurants, baked – for bakeries, and raw – for supermarket goods; or time slot throughout the day. With the personal choices set, the app connects the user with most compatible businesses and the food savings starts from there.
Too Good to Go also collaborates with non-lucrative associations in the area. With just one click of a button, the user can help those in need the most – low-income individuals – while saving food from waste. Not only does donating help the recipient, it also inspires those around to also contribute in the cause or other charity causes. With an increasing number of donations and positive acts, it is possible to change the world to a better place.
