WHAT IT IS?
The Maldives is known for its abundance of diverse sea life. As an island nation in the Indian Ocean consisting of 1,192 islands and 26 atolls, the Maldives recognizes the importance of conserving its resources and works to develop effective measures to protect and restore corals. The coral regeneration project aims to revitalise the reef following both natural and man-made damage. The huge input into this ecological initiative is done by the hoteliers. They are not only launching their own coral restoration programs at the lagoons, working with local and international marine biologist organizations, but involve their guests into coral adoption programs. This is the great example how simple environmental initiative turns it onto memorable moment. This emotional intelligence helps the resort to connect with the guest on a deeper level.
Many resorts in Maldives have their own restoration projects. Their resident marine biologists educate guests on the nature and the role coral plays in supporting a healthy marine ecosystem. Guests can donate and adopt an individual coral line. The ritual is often offered to celebrate special occasions – honeymoon or wedding anniversary symbolising the beginning of new life and creating emotional connection. Here the progress is filmed and sent to the guests, so the resort is staying in touch sharing pictures of coral growth on a regular basis. This is the great opportunity for the brand to build strong relationship with the guest reminding them on the great time spent.
WHY IT´S COOL?
- Loyalty: Guests becomes part of the ecological project helping to improve environment. This improves guest loyalty to associated brand and creates emotional memories.
- Effectient communication: Sending picture of the adopted coral worth much more than any attractive offer and may urge the clients to return to the place where they feel needed and important.
WHY IT HAS FUTURE GROWTH POTENTIAL?
The emotional intelligence is very much a lifetime practice. Building more emotionally intelligent experiences will give brands a competitive advantage which leads to the success.
