WHAT IT IS?
The Library Hotel is a 4-star boutique hotel in Manhattan, New York City. Each of the hotel’s ten floors represents a category of the Dewey Decimal Classification, a classification of books based on their subject. Every room contains between 100 and 150 books about a specific theme within its floor classification.
The hotel allows every guest to watch the type of books in each room on the website so they can choose it according to their reading preferences. Some examples: if you want to boost your knowledge of photography, you should book room n. 700.004 on the seventh floor; if your child is making you crazy with dinosaurs, room n. 500.005 on the fifth floor will be your choice!
WHY IT´S COOL?
- Distinctive. This touchpoint clarifies the hotel’s customer target and differentiates it from the others in the city, allowing the management to know their guests better and, consequently, to satisfy them more.
- Harmonious. The rooms’ decor and the homogeneity of their guests create a coherent and harmonious environment that allows guests to enjoy their stay fully.
- Educational. Guests can learn something new at every stay, making it a way to retain their loyalty.
- Enhancing. The uniqueness of the books in every room makes the guest feel like he is sleeping in a unique and special place.
WHY IT HAS FUTURE GROWTH POTENTIAL?
Young customers look for more and more unique and astonishing details while travelling to feel special and share them with their friends, generating huge possibilities to increase the hotel’s customer base through word-of-mouth. Everybody would like to sleep one night in a library at least once!
Additionally, this touchpoint would be hard for other hotels to imitate because it perfectly integrates with the hotel’s architecture and services. Consequently, it can count on a solid customer base, which helps spread its particularity worldwide.
Finally, the hotel’s location in one of the world’s most open-minded cities can make it a rendezvous point for many local book lovers who want to drink a nice cocktail or taste a nice meal in a pleasant environment consistent with their passion.

I can think of at least a dozen people right off the bat who would definitely add this place to their bucket list. It feels like a sanctuary for book lovers while traveling, making the hotel not just a place to stay but a destination in itself. The One thing I really love is how it encourages guests to unwind and indulge in reading, which seems rare in the fast-paced world of travel and daily life. It would be perfect for my kids, too, allowing them to put their devices aside and immerse themselves in books….., however I do wonder if this could attract a quieter crowd, potentially affecting the overall hotel vibe.

What a fantastic insight!
I can totally relate—I’d probably spend half a day just trying to choose the perfect book-themed room! I can already imagine myself getting lost among the shelves, completely absorbed in a book instead of shopping or exploring the bustling streets of NYC.
I’d definitely want to switch it up and stay on different floors throughout my visit, diving into various topics. But then again, maybe it would be better to immerse myself in just one theme for the entire stay. It’s such a tough choice!
And how amazing would it be to sip a cocktail while getting lost in a good book? It sounds like the perfect blend of relaxation and inspiration. That said, I wonder if New York is the best place for this kind of experience, given how fast-paced the city can be. What do you think?
