Hotel Divino: History, Art and Design

WHAT IT IS?

Hotel Dino is a 4 star superior boutique hotel located in the heart of Figueres (Girona), housed in a 19th century historic building the Casa Fages, the former residence of the poet Carles Fages de Climent. The project revives the soul of the building by preserving original elements such as the private chapel, moldings, and high ceilings, while fusing it with an aesthetic inspired by the surrealist universe of Salvador Dalí.

WHY IT´S COOL?

  • Dalí inspired atmosphere: You could call it “hotel museum” as art is felt in every detail, surreal shapes, bold colors, and unconventional spaces create the sensation os stepping into a work of art.
  • Sleep in a historic house with soul: the former Casa Fages features a private Chapel, original coffered ceilings, and architectural details that give each room a strong character and identity.
  • Emotional and coherent storytelling: There is a narrative behind it all, every design element connects with guests who are looking for more than just a place to sleep.

WHY IT HAS FUTURE GROWTH POTENTIAL?

Has a strong growth potential thanks to its unique cultural identity and strategic location in the heart of Figueres. As a brand, it can position itself as a creative hospitality reference, blending heritage, art and experience. This distinctive and original concept could involve into a strong, recognizable brand with international appeal.

At the same time, Figueres is already a well-known destination that thanks to the Dalí Museum and I’m sure that for art and surrealism lovers, staying at this hotel can be an enriching complement to their visit.

Also holds great cultural potential, by hosting or partnering with artistic and cultural events, and by creating social experiences that generate unique synergies becoming a living space within the city, far beyond just accommodation.

  1. Good storytelling throughout the paragraphs, and the bold text helped me focus on the key points. The decoration is very beautiful, but personally I didn’t feel a true wow factor it’s more of a careful, elegant concept with cultural value, but not a groundbreaking one.

    Well-designed blog, Andreu. well-hunted as well. Link with class content is a bit shallow though. There were so many magnet terms describing special sorts of new hotel concepts. And you don’t play with them. That’s a bit of a miss out. Further: good. Thanks. Carl

    1. Hi Carl, this is actually my third blog post, and it’s based on the content of our last class on Hotel Experiences, as I also indicated in the category. The blog I did about the Experience Economy was the one we discussed today in class “Laowang Hotpot”.
      I’m sorry to hear you felt I didn’t use the magnet terms describing the different types of new hotel concepts. I simply understood that the task was to present a hotel experience that related to one of the types you mentioned in class.
      That’s what I’ve tried to do, and I’d like to explain my thinking in case it wasn’t fully clear in the blog itself.
      I consider Hotel Divino to be a unique themed concept, which was one of the categories you mentioned in the first part of the session. At the same time, especially in relation to the second part of the class, I see it as both a cultural and social hotel with an innovative concept, since it is more than just a hotel.
      It’s located in a refurbished 19th-century cultural building that was once the home of a famous poet. The chapel and other architectural elements from that time have been preserved. It also an innovative concept that works as a kind of surrealist hotel-museum, since every decorative element is a handcrafted work of art.
