What is Generation Z looking for in hospitality?

Gen Z is the first generation that has grown up in a world deeply shaped by technology, social media, and significant, fast-paced social and environmental changes. This generation demands speed in processes, sustainability, commitment to the environment and they tend to value experiences over products. In terms of travel, they prioritize having unforgettable experiences to share on social media and get as many likes as possible.

WHAT IT IS?

Analyzing the preferences of this generation, I came across this interesting hotel that opened its doors in 2018: The Arctic Bath Hotel.

It is located on the lule river in northern lapland. The arctic bath hotel will float during the summer and be suspended on the ice in winter days.

The design of the hotel was developed with the highest environmental standards  using local materials and with a minimal to no impact on the environment. The hotel offers 12 rooms for guests to stay overnight, a spa treatment room, four saunas, an outside cold bath, a hot bath, and outside and inside showers with dressing rooms.

They provide several activities, yoga retreats and local, pure and sustainable products that guests can find in their Scandinavian designed restaurant.

WHY IT´S COOL?

  • A full experience to tick off the wish list: From staying in a floating room to watching the Northern Lights during the winter season, Generation Z can see the Arctic Bath Hotel as an experience in itself.
  • Spa & Wellness: “Let the river water wash away your thoughts and heal you from the inside out”. The hotel promotes the idea of well-being linked to both physical health and mental wellness. The unique and luxury Spa surrounded by breathtaking natural scenery, offers several Scandinavian SPA treatments, the Swedish Sauna Culture and Cold Bathing.
  • Sustainable and local economy: With increasing environmental awareness and a commitment to preserving the planet for future generations, this hotel bases its modern design on architecture inspired by nature. They promote sustainability based on three pillars: environmental, social, and economic sustainability.
  • Time to connect and socialize: To counter the loneliness often experienced by this tech-driven generation, Arctic Bath offers yoga retreats that help guests connect with others, meet new people, and support their mental and emotional well-being.
  • Nice post to share on social media: This generation associates the number of likes on their posts with personal value—a factor worth analyzing when it comes to self-esteem. That’s why they’re willing to spend more money when the photo, experience, or video they share on social media is extra WOW.

WHY IT HAS FUTURE GROWTH POTENTIAL?

When we talk about Generation Z, we’re referring to a generation that lives and learns through experiences. They are an insatiable generation, always seeking the rare, the singular, the incomparable.

The Arctic Bath Hotel markets itself as “the hotel experience.” This is reflected in its unique and modern design, its location, the activities it offers, and its dining options. All of these factors position it as a hotel with significant growth potential in the future and especially irresistible to this particular generation.

    Wow, what an amazing hotel! I hadn’t seen anything like it anywhere in the world. A 100% Instagrammable hotel because it’s incredible, while still maintaining strict environmental standards and offering various activities to socialize with other guests. Honestly, besides being a total WOW, I think you’ve covered all the magnet terms mentioned by the professor very well and have created a really good blog, clear, concise, and well written. Congratulations!

    Good video – not too long – fresh original location, good food. All visualized pretty. Writing doesn’t go to deep – a tiny bit of ‘brochure’ but the origality of the location – and therefore the cool hunting qualities – do clearly compensate. I thank you. Carl

    Cool seed you found there Marta. I like the video and photos you chose to support your text and make the finding even more WOW. The Hotel concept is definitely suitable for younger generations. I believe using more magnet terms would improve your text even more:)
