WHAT IT IS?
Leaving the hospitality sector, we dive right into the real estate market. More specifically, we go to Malaga, a beautiful city in the South of Spain. There are 3 brand new buildings that have re – created the experience of housing for future generations: private renting houses with co- working and social areas and hotel services available. The renting is of a minimum 3 years and a maximum of 5 years and 90% of the residents work remotely. On the first floor you can find the spa, the second floor the gym with available classes during the week, the third floor is a co – working space with private rooms for meetings, the fourth floor is an open space gastro bar with available fridges/kitchens/tables, and in the last floor there is a swimming pool area. At the reception you find a robotic concierge. Everything is digital with smart mobility integration: apps to open the doors, to reserve the common spaces, facial apps to talk to the robots, apps to ask for assistance. It is a futuristic living experience in the senses that it envisions a lifestyle that integrates cutting-edge technology, sustainable design, and innovative community models to create homes that meet the needs of future societies.
WHY IT´S COOL?
- Everything in this building enhanced the traditional living experience, mixing together different housing types: hotel services, private houses, co – working facilities and shared amenities. It combines the comfort, privacy, and personalization of home living with the luxury, convenience, and amenities of a hotel. This unique blend offers an elevated lifestyle experience that many find highly appealing because of: concierge services, spa/wellness and gym services, gastro and open space for cooking. It is a mark of prestige, sophistication and secrecy in your lifestyle.
- It is suitable for people that work remotely and consider themselves working nomads. You have access to like – minded communities in your own building.
- It closes the gap between housing and hotel. Why need to go to an hotel if you can have all the services in your own building? It gives luxury hotel services to your day to day lifestyle.
- It is 100% digital: it offers efficiency, convenience and personalization. It resonates with modern needs and values. It also offers security as it uses biometric authentication like facial recognition to control access.
WHY IT HAS FUTURE GROWTH POTENTIAL?
The futurist living housing experience represents a blend of advanced technology, flexibility, and well-being. It seeks to address societal challenges while enhancing the quality of life through innovative designs and community-focused approaches. This vision includes smart homes and shared amenities, all aimed at creating homes that are adaptable to the needs of the future. A home that enhances your quality of life is what makes it cool, futuristic, and highly desirable.

I agree with Sigrid. It does feel a bit outdated to me as well. I don’t think it’s a bad idea, but it’s true that there are already many hotels and spaces designed with similar concepts. It seems like there was a similar idea before, and now, post-COVID and with the rise of remote work, these buildings have been adapted for digital nomads. Particularly in areas like Málaga, Marbella, or Tenerife, this concept could work very well given the type of British clientele they attract. I also have a question: do these types of buildings benefit tourism, or do they harm it? Not to mention how this concept affects rental prices in cities…
