WHAT IT IS?
Hidden among the vivid, graffiti-painted streets of Metelkova, Ljubljana’s alternative culture hub, is a structure with a unique story. Hostel Celica, which was once a military jail under the Austro-Hungarian Empire, has become one of Europe’s unique and innovative places to stay. Hostel Celica is a one-of-a-kind hostel located in a former nineteenth-century prison. The facility, originally designed to house military and political prisoners, was abandoned after Slovenia declared independence in 1991.
