What is it?
Award winning chef and restauranteur Adam Handling, a Scottish owner of five restaurants in the London area has always been asked why he hasn’t launched a delivery service for his cuisine. He’s always replied the same: “I would honestly love to but my food just won’t travel well”. So is the case for many other places.
During COVID-19 lockdowns and closures, Adam found a way not only to bring his food to his clientele, but also an interactive experience. His new project “Hame”, named after the Scottish word for ‘home’, is a sophisticated delivery service that includes guided-cooking and fine dining experience right at your door.
Why it’s Cool?
- Through Hame, Handling delivers a do-it-yourself (DIY) personalized package that includes all food hand-selected, ingredients prepped, then guides you to prepare his signature dishes through a virtual cooking class, and shows you how to plate them. You can also add wine and some of his signature cocktails to the mix.
- It’s simply a cool and engaging intimate experience. And it’s a simple enough approach for anyone with a basic technology and kitchen/cooking knowledge to do it.
- You receive your package along with a personal note from AH, and a printed list of the ingredients included and cooking instructions. On the back of the instructions, there is a printed QR (quick-response) code that you scan with your phone and links you to a video of Adam himself cooking and plating your menu selection.
Why it has future growth potential?
There are plenty of restaurants that deliver meals to your place, some have emerged with DIY versions. What AH has achieved like no one else is bring those experiences back to our homes in a “new normal” way: he shows up (virtually) at your kitchen and guides you through the whole process. He helps you feel special and unique, quite an original experience. Additionally, Hame provides you with the means to celebrate special occasions: a romantic dinner, celebrate memorable dates (birthdays, anniversaries, holidays), hold cooking parties, or simply to spend quality time with loved ones.
Corona times proved to be financially unsettling for the industry, post corona times are still uncertain. Hame has helped AH’s restaurants stay afloat. Even when things go fully back to normal, adding this additional stream of revenue will be helpful to recover sooner. Expect others to follow soon.
