What Is It?

Have you ever thought about becoming a godparent to a tree? No? Well, let me tell you—as a godmother myself, it is an enriching experience that makes every visit to Mallorca, Spain, even more memorable.

TERRAGUST, in collaboration with the local agricultural company Terracor, launched its “Adopt a Tree” programme in 2020. The concept is delightfully simple and incredibly unique.

You choose a tree—peach, nectarine, apricot, fig, or plum—and for one year, you officially become its godfather or godmother. Your name and adoption date are displayed on a sign placed in front of your tree, so every time you visit, it is waiting for you like an old friend. You also receive an official adoption certificate.

As a godparent, you decide how many kilos of fruit you would like from the season’s harvest. The farm prepares your order, which can consist of fruit from your own tree or a selection from the surrounding orchards.

Throughout the year, you receive charming video updates and emails showing what is happening on the farm: pruning, blossoming, ripening, and harvesting. It feels like following a personal seasonal story, with your tree as the star of the show.

You also become part of the Terragust Farmers Club, which includes exclusive discounts on Terracor products.

More Than Just a Harvest

The experience does not end with the harvest.

Terragust offers guided tours through Terracor’s fields, as well as unforgettable lunches and dinners set among the fruit trees. Surrounded by the scents of summer fruit, these events create lasting memories.

These experiences are not exclusive to godparents and can be booked by anyone. However, as a tree adopter, you have the added benefit of visiting your tree during these events or arranging a private visit for a more personal connection.

Best of all, during your visit, you can pick some fruit yourself. It is a hands-on experience that is highly Instagrammable and far from boring.

Why Is Cool?

  • You Become Part of The Story. Naming a tree, receiving updates, and visiting it throughout the year transforms the experience into something much more meaningful than a simple purchase. It creates a genuine connection between you and the land.
  • Sustainability Meets Soul. Terracor uses sustainable, locally focused farming methods that support biodiversity and help reduce environmental impact. By adopting a tree, you are not only enjoying delicious fruit but also supporting responsible agriculture and a more sustainable future.
  • It Is a Great Conversation Starter. Let’s be honest—telling people that you are the godparent of a nectarine tree in Mallorca is a fantastic conversation starter.

Why Does It Have Future Growth Potential?

  • Experiential Tourism Is Booming. Today’s travellers, especially Millennials and Gen Z, are looking for authentic and meaningful experiences. Terragust’s “Adopt a Tree” programme combines agriculture, gastronomy, sustainability, and personal involvement into one memorable experience that visitors will not easily forget.
  • Stronger Guest Engagement and Loyalty. Hotels, agritourism properties, and villa rentals could integrate tree adoptions into their guest experiences. Imagine checking into your favourite finca and being welcomed with the words: “Your fig tree is blossoming. Would you like to visit it this afternoon?” This unique touchpoint creates emotional attachment and encourages guests to return year after year.
  • Perfectly Aligned with Global Travel Plans. Farm-to-table dining, slow food, sustainable agriculture, and authentic tourism experiences continue to grow in popularity worldwide. The “Adopt a Tree” programme fits perfectly within these trends, offering travellers a meaningful way to connect with nature, local food production, and the culture of Mallorca.
